Support for the stress of growing into adult life — figuring out who you are, what you want, and how to stand on your own.
Moving into adult life is exciting, and also one of the most stressful transitions most people go through. Structures you relied on — home, school schedules, familiar friends — shift or disappear, and suddenly you’re expected to manage money, deadlines, relationships, and big decisions on your own. It’s common to feel behind, unsure who you are, or quietly overwhelmed while it looks like everyone else has it figured out.
Therapy gives you a space to slow down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and build the skills and confidence to move forward on your own terms.
Jennifer Garris especially enjoys working with college students and young adults. Her approach is warm, strength-based, and practical: together you’ll build coping skills for stress, school, relationships, and life transitions, and explore how earlier experiences shape the way you react now, so you can respond to life with more confidence. Many young adults she works with are learning to find and use their voice — with family, partners, professors, and themselves.
Jennifer sees clients by telehealth across North Carolina and New York, which makes it easy to keep therapy going from a dorm, an apartment, or between classes. She has immediate morning and early-afternoon openings and is in network with BCBS, Aetna, Optum, Cigna, and UHC.
Fill out our short new client request. Our admin team will check your insurance and reach out to schedule — you can ask for a free 15-minute consultation first to see if it feels like a good fit. Parents are welcome to call with questions, but young adults 18 and over sign their own paperwork and their sessions stay confidential.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.
